Electric car subsidies unveiled
Motorists will be offered subsidies of up to £5,000 to encourage them to buy electric or plug-in hybrid cars under plans announced by the government.
It is part of the government's £250m plan to promote low carbon transport over the next five years.
But ministers do not expect the cars to hit the showrooms until 2011.

I would have one they are good i remember when i worked for rovers at Longbridge they were quiet planning of an electric car but it never really amounted to much as the material and production costs were far higher than a standard engine but technology has moved a long way since the eighties.
