I dont like paying for software, and havent really in well over 20 years! This allows "piracy" to rear its ugly head, but it doesnt need to be like this. There is a massive amount of good freeware out there;

Who uses freeware they find is essential? Lets start a list here to help each-other!
(Pirate copies and shareware doesnt count!)

Open office - http://www.openoffice.org/
This is a freeware office suite, and IMHO now beats M$ office!

Firefox Web browser - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
This puts internet Explorer to shame!

ClocX - http://www.clocx.net/
A clock on your desktop, that you can see, set alarms and even skin it!

BBC News Ticker - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/help/4735697.stm
BBC news straight to your desktop, as it happens!

Grabit Usenet binary downloader - http://www.shemes.com/
Fantastic binary newsreader (if you don't know what I'm on about, ignore this Smile )
